Hints and Kinks
AM radio is subject to noise that FM is not. Adjustable intensity
lighting systems have components that radiate noise that can kill reception on a
nearby AM radio. Other things to watch out for are touch lamps,
fluorescent lighting, dimmer switches, surge protectors (which should never be
used with antique radios) and nearby TV sets or computer monitors. All these
devices can interfere with or drown out AM reception.
As with any electrical device, never leave the set on while unattended. Leave
the set unplugged when not in use. This will prevent damage from power surges
that can do damage even with the set turned off. Should the set quit playing
unexpectedly it should not be operated until the trouble has been determined as
possible further damage may occur.
